4 person dome tent for my friend

I gave my friend a 4 person dome tent for his birthday. I know him as quite the adventurous type of guy, and so I felt that a tent would be an appropriate gift. At the time, I was never anxious that he might not need the tent because he already had one, and so when he was opening the gift, that suddenly dawned on me. Fortunately, he was all thanks and praises after accepting the gift. I confessed that I was worried that he might find no use for a new tent. However, he said he does have a tent, but he needed a 4 person tent.
